As an early organisation we have been lucky enough to reflect on what is the right way to do things. Many of those things are rooted in constantly asking the why question.
Why do we do it this way?
Why do we operate in the norm?
Why, do I as CEO, always need to behave in a certain way?
Our company has lifted the norm to something new and interesting. When you see the video attached to this you will realise this is resonating through the IT market place.
PrimeQ is quickly becoming the IT employer of choice in Australia and New Zealand for the following reasons:
- Everyone gets a Voice – In today’s digital world it is hugely important to connect every person on the team to have a voice. As we built this company we realised how much un-tapped potential was sitting in the team that had previously been ignored. Organisations are becoming increasingly flat in structure and we need to create forums for thinking and advice. This is not easy to do, but hugely important, so it means every day I wake up and say “Who am I going to make a difference to today”. Our wider management team do the same, not because I do, but because they feel the same way. Every day I will turn up to work at PrimeQ and my job is to make each person successful, whether they are in PrimeQ or not.
- Communicate constantly and remain humble – Transparency is critical in a growing business. Allowing everyone to be a part of the process and know what is happening allows them to always be involved. Communicating constantly creates an environment where everyone starts to think about communicating themselves, and then all of a sudden you have an organisation that collaborates! As CEO, my door always needs to be open to thought and creativity.
- Remember everyone is different and they have their own uniqueness – We are all different and that means everyone needs different things. Some people need special laptops, some people need different headphones, some people need different travel arrangements. Don’t fight it, accept it and treat each person as the individual and respect them for that. Uniqueness brings a great culture to an organisation. If you can capture, you will have an amazing team like we do!
- Create diversity and equality – As CEO, my job is to ensure we build a culture that embraces differences in gender, ethnicity, age and creates an organisation that realises that in the right environment everyone can be successful. I often hear the comments about someone is “too old” or some is “too young”. What we do is build teams that think differently, respect each other and that makes a difference too. Eventually great culture overtakes the individual and the becomes successful and this in turn makes our customers successful.
- Create a culture that includes, respects and involves the customer – Customers are the reason we survive and they usually have the same aspirations as us, in regards to culture and values. Don’t sell to them, bring them in and make them an important part of the growth of your culture. Let customers see the warts (it’s reality). Every customer is also unique and they deserve time and attention. At PrimeQ we remain privileged to have customers that stand by us but importantly reflect who we are. Allowing customers inside your full organisation often feels like alenge, but in the end is absolutely rewarding and creates an environment of mutual success.
- Build a set of values that resonate and can be fulfilled, as a leadership group. At PrimeQ our values are “Always strive to do the right thing”, “Build lasting relationships based on trust and loyalty”, “Be committed to excellence”, “Laughter keeps us happy”, “Pursue growth and Learning”, “Be grateful and remain humble”, but finally build an organisation of values in a manner that will make your families proud!
Everyone has a voice! Be a part of PrimeQ
